Textbook MiseEnPlace Oakville 2019

Vintage: 2019

Varietal: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot

AVA: Napa Valley

  • Mise en Place is a French culinary phrase which means “everything in its place.” We chose this name to reflect the preparation and diligence exercised in the vineyards and winery in order to create a textbook example of this noble variety.

  • Hand-harvested from Vyborny Vineyard, a superbly mature and well-drained Cabernet Sauvignon site on the rocky, east-side of Oakville next door to Screaming Eagle.

  • 2019 is a standout vintage. A long, warm summer saw very few extreme heat events, allowing the vines to progress at a perfect pace. At the end of the growing season, the weather was mild, which preserved freshness and finesse in the fruit.

Our Vision

The concept of \\\”mise en place\\\” comes to life in this wine where every aroma, every flavor, every texture is truly in its place. By using slow, gentle methods like hand harvesting and hand sorting, along with aging in French Oak barrels, we designed this wine to show restraint, a quality that translates into a taste experience that reveals rather than overpowers.

Your Experience

The deep ruby hue is enough to take your breath away. When coupled with aromas of stone fruit and spice and a lengthy finish, this Cabernet-forward wine will secure its presence at every celebration. 2019 Page-Turner Proprietary Red Wine

The Merlot that makes up the majority of the blend was harvested from the Holmes Vineyard, a well-drained site on west side of Oakville near To-Kalon and downslope from Harlan. Planted in early ’80s & ’90s, clones include heritage selections which lend luxurious aromas of ripe black stone fruits, juicy berries, baking spices, and toasty French oak. The mid-palate is lush and textured with velvety tannins. Drink now or cellar up to ten years.

Textbook Page Turner Oakville 2019

Vintage: 2019

Varietal: Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon

AVA: Napa Valley

  • Named by the daughter of Jon and Susan Pey, founders of TEXTBOOK - “Page Turner” reflects the eagerness we feel each time we taste it. It beckons for another sip.

  • Vineyard terrain is characterized by soils of gravelly alluvium covered by well-drained gravelly loam interspersed with large boulders.

  • Grape clusters were field-sorted, hand-harvested, hand-sorted at the winery. Fruit was de-stemmed and cold soaked for two days.

Textbook page turner bottle label

Our Vision

Given the unmatched quality of the Holmes Vineyard, making a Merlot-centric blend from Oakville became an essential for us. A drop of Cabernet Sauvignon gives a hint of structure to the Merlot’s plush nature while allowing the fruit to be in the spotlight. Field sorting and hand-harvesting protected the integrity of the fruit for a wine. After 28 days on their skins, we gently pressed into French Oak barrels, where lots completed ML fermentation over th winter.

It’s a conversation starter, ideal for an evening with close friends or for “me time” curled up with a good book. AVA: Napa Valley

  • The 76-acre Yountville Ranch Vineyard sits below the western hillside of Napa Valley. Its benchland soils of well-drained Coombs gravelly loam force vines to root deep and result in wines that are a true reflection of their terroir.

  • Vines were carefully monitored and managed throughout the season to reduce the overall crop, ensuring concentration in the fruit when harvested.

  • Grape clusters were field-sorted, hand-harvested, and hand-sorted at the winery. Fruit was de-stemmed and cold-soaked for two days.

  • The two separate lots spent 20 months in the highest quality French Oak with significant new oak before blending.
