  • Hand-crafted with select lots from Oakville district, then balanced the blend with Yountville, Oak Knoll and Calistoga.

  • This Reserve Cabernet's power pairs exquisitely with rich dishes such as grilled lamb chops or tender roasted duck with Bing cherry sauce.

  • 94 POINTS
"Punchy tannins, interesting leather and tobacco complexity, and a core of black currants and black olives help this wine stand out from the pack. Just ripe without overdoing it, the black fruits are deep and complex but also fresh and savory. Best from 2025. "

Textbook Napa Valley Merlot 2021 - bottle

Vintage: 2021

Varietal: Merlot

AVA: Napa Valley

  • Cool marine breezes from the San Pablo Bay create natural acidity in the Oak Knoll fruit - contributing to the “pop” of cherry and bright red fruit characteristics.

  • Yountville's gravelly alluvial soils force vines to root deep, creates rich, complex wine profiles. The AVA produces red fruit flavors and big tannins - raspberry and ripe juicy cherry.

  • 76% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon: Cabernet Sauvignon is blended in to provide a strong backbone and tannin structure, which perfectly balances the plush texture of Merlot.

  • 92 POINTS
"This suave, velvety wine is richly layered in baking spices, cherries, berries and chocolate for an indulgent, almost sweet expression. Tasty on its own or with a filet mignon, the wine will please a crowd of red-wine-lovers."

—J.G.. Wine Enthusiast, "Best of the Year" Issue, December 2023

  • "This wine is velvet on the palate, with rich aromas of fresh blackberry and bright cherry, complemented by concentrated briary berry compote and allspice flavors. Juicy with a solid chewy tannin structure."

Our Vision

We like to think of our Napa Valley Merlot as our right place, right time wine. You’d be hard-pressed to find a California region where Merlot flourishes better than in the Napa Valley. The slightly longer growing season allows those lush, plush qualities to mature while also giving enough space for the fruit to come to life. The ideal amount of tannin gives the wine enough structure for aging.

2021 Mise en Place Cabernet Sauvignon

The touchstone of the TEXTBOOK portfolio, restraint over power was Abigail’s goal while crafting Oakville Mise en Place Cabernet Sauvignon. Incredibly rich in color, it showcases aromas of black currants, juicy plums, dark chocolate and baking spices. The palate has beautiful structure and ripe tannins with an excellent, lengthy finish. This wine will age well up to fifteen years.

Our Vision

The concept of “mise en place” comes to life in this wine where every aroma, every flavor, every texture is truly in its place. By using slow, gentle methods like hand harvesting and hand sorting, along with aging in French Oak barrels, we designed this wine to show restraint, a quality that translates into a taste experience that reveals rather than overpowers.

Vintage: 2021

Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

AVA: Yountville

  • The 76-acre Yountville Ranch Vineyard sits below the western hillside of Napa Valley. Its benchland soils of well-drained Coombs gravelly loam force vines to root deep and result in wines that are a true reflection of their terroir.

  • Vines were carefully monitored and managed throughout the season to reduce the overall crop, ensuring concentration in the fruit when harvested.

  • Grape clusters were field-sorted, hand-harvested, and hand-sorted at the winery. Fruit was de-stemmed and cold-soaked for two days.

  • The two separate lots spent 20 months in the highest quality French Oak with significant new oak before blending.
